Disassemble iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro to see whose PCB is inside

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were just launched, and the well-known dismantling agency iFixit immediately conducted a dismantling analysis of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Judging from the dismantling results of iFixit, the new machine’s workmanship and materials are still excellent, and the signal problem has also been solved well.

The X-ray film provided by Creative Electron shows that the L-shaped logic board, battery and MagSafe circular magnet array in the two devices are almost identical. The iPhone 12 uses dual cameras and the iPhone 12 Pro uses three rear cameras. Apple has not redesigned the positions of the rear cameras and LiDAR, and chose to use plastic parts to directly fill the empty spaces on the iPhone 12.

The displays of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are interchangeable, but the maximum brightness levels of the two are slightly different. In the case of only removing the display and not other internal structures, the two devices look almost identical.

From the perspective of disassembly, the waterproof function has been upgraded to IP 68, and the waterproof time can be up to 30 minutes at 6 meters underwater. In addition, from the side of the fuselage, the new machine sold in the US market has a design window on the side, which may support the millimeter wave (mmWave) antenna function.

The disassembly process also revealed key component suppliers. In addition to the A14 processor designed by Apple and manufactured by TSMC, the US-based memory manufacturer Micron supplies LPDDR4 SDRAM; the Korean-based memory manufacturer Samsung supplies Flash memory storage; Qualcomm, a major American manufacturer, provides transceivers that support 5G and LTE communications.

In addition, Qualcomm also supplies radio frequency modules and radio frequency chips that support 5G; Taiwan’s Sun Moon Optical Investment Control’s USI supplies ultra-wideband (UWB) modules; Avago supplies power amplifiers and duplexer components; Apple also designs Power management chip.

iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are still equipped with LPDDR4 memory instead of the latest LPDDR5 memory. The red part in the picture is the A14 processor, and the memory below is Micron. iPhone 12 is equipped with 4GB LPDDR4 memory, and iPhone 12 Pro is equipped with 6. GB LPDDR4 memory.

As for the signal issue that everyone is most concerned about, iFixit said that this year's new phone has no problem in this area. The green part is Qualcomm's Snapdragon X55 modem. At present, many Android phones are using this baseband, which is very mature.

In the battery section, the battery capacity of both models is 2815mAh. The disassembly shows that the battery appearance design of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro is the same and can be interchanged. The X-axis linear motor has the same size, although it is significantly smaller than the iPhone 11, but it is thicker.

In addition, many of the materials used in these two phones are the same, so most of them are interchangeable (the front camera, linear motor, speaker, tail plug, battery, etc. are exactly the same).

At the same time, iFixit also disassembled the MagSafe magnetic wireless charger. The structure design is relatively simple. The structure of the circuit board is between the magnet and the charging coil.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro received a 6-point repairability rating. iFixit said that many of the components on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are modular and easy to replace, but Apple continues to use proprietary screws and equipment Added waterproof function, which may complicate maintenance. And because the front and back of the two devices use glass, which increases the chance of cracking.
