it is broken and separated after welding, so it is called V-cut.

When the PCB is assembled, the V-shaped dividing line between the two veneers and between the veneer and the process edge forms a “V” shape; it is broken and separated after welding, so it is called V-cut.

Purpose of V-cut:

The main purpose of designing the V-cut is to facilitate the operator to divide the board after the circuit board is assembled. When the PCBA is divided, the V-Cut Scoring machine (Scoring machine) is generally used to cut the PCB in advance. Aim at the round blade of Scoring, and then push it hard. Some machines have the design of automatic board feeding. As long as a button is pressed, the blade will automatically move and cross the position of the V-Cut of the circuit board to cut the board. The height of the blade Can be adjusted up or down to match the thickness of different V-Cuts.

Reminder: In addition to using V-Cut's Scoring, there are other methods for PCBA sub-boards, such as Routing, stamp holes, etc.

Although V-Cut allows us to easily separate the board and remove the edge of the board, V-Cut also has limitations in design and use.

1. V-Cut can only cut a straight line, and one knife to the end, that is to say, V-Cut can only be cut into a straight line from the beginning to the end, it cannot turn to change the direction, nor can it be cut into a small section like a tailor line. Skip a short paragraph.

2. The thickness of the PCB is too thin and it is not suitable for V-Cut grooves. Generally, if the thickness of the board is less than 1.0mm, V-Cut is not recommended. This is because the V-Cut grooves will destroy the structural strength of the original PCB. , When there are relatively heavy parts placed on the board with the V-Cut design, the board will become easy to bend due to the relationship of gravity, which is very unfavorable for the SMT welding operation (it is easy to cause empty welding or short circuit).

3. When the PCB passes through the high temperature of the reflow oven, the board itself will soften and deform because the high temperature exceeds the glass transition temperature (Tg). If the V-Cut position and groove depth are not designed well, the PCB deformation will be more serious. is not conducive to the secondary reflow process.
